We're creating the future of work index with two goals: first, to help more companies to hire talent from anywhere in the world, increasing the size of the pie. Second, to guide countries in updating their policies, helping them provide their citizens with the best opportunities possible in the digital economy.
The world has changed
We are entering a new world. In the past, work depended on physical proximity, our workplace was nearby, and nation-states served as communities, economies, labor markets, and information hubs. But the internet has changed this reality, and removed this constraint. Today, people can collaborate, hire, apply for jobs, and build relationships across the globe from the comfort of their own home. Yet, our rules and regulations remain rooted in a world that no longer exists.
A market that works for everyone
The online global labor market is beneficial for everyone involved. For individuals, it opens doors to career opportunities previously unavailable, especially for those living in rural areas, facing disabilities, or otherwise limited in local job options. This revolution also means you no longer need to pay high silicon valley rents to land a silicon valley job. For businesses, the global talent pool unlocks access to skills and innovation previously out of reach.
A golden opportunity for nations
For nations tirelessly working to boost employment and prosperity, the internet-driven labor market is a golden opportunity. It can significantly reduce unemployment, boost GDP through increased productivity, and forge valuable international connections benefiting their local economy.
What we’re doing now
Together with world-leading tax experts, we are doing deep-dive investigations on employment, tax, and immigration rules across the world and presenting what we find in a straightforward and accessible format.
Why it matters
Through the future of work index, we aim to inspire and inform individuals, businesses, and governments alike—to understand existing regulations, make informed decisions, and update policies and practices so that it fits the new world that we live in.
We invite your participation and feedback as we build this index together. Thank you for joining us in shaping the future of work.
